I stayed at the Five Gables Inn and Spa for one night this spring. The room was perfectly nice. It was clean, had a fireplace (that was surprisingly good at heating the room!), a TV and small balcony that overlooked a parking lot. The bathroom included plush towels and standard hotel bathrobes with Aveda bath products, however grouting and the whole bathroom was slightly moldy and poorly fitted. This made the whirlpool tub un-enticing as I was unsure as to the cleanliness of the tub if the walls weren't in tip top shape. The breakfast was fine - lots of selection including muffins, juices, bagels, toast, sausage, eggs, yogurt and cereals. Nothing to write home about though. I think the appropriate price for a place like this would be at maximum $120/night, but because it's St. Michaels there's an automatic up charge. If you're expecting something great you will be disappointed.

Stayed here 4th of July week with my husband and our dog. LOVED that it was pet friendly. Our pup had a bed, treat, toy, and water dish waiting for him. The room seemed a little on the small side, but had everything we needed. Huge fan of the porch and the jetted tub. No DVD player in the room as we thought, but that was ok. It's an older property, but has character. A mini fridge would have been nice, but luckily we were able to get our hands on ice buckets. The breakfast was really good. I've only stayed at one other B&B and enjoyed that Five Gables had a dining room with various small tables as opposed to sitting together with the other guests. The food was a good variety of bagels/toast/waffles/cereal/fruit/yogurt/hard boiled eggs and a couple of hot items such as egg frittata and sausage. It would have been nice to see a variance in options day to day, but for 2 mornings, it was good. The innkeeper was nice and we felt very welcomed and out of the way. Indoor pool was small, but in a nice area. Did not take advantage of the pool, spa, or bikes..but nice to have access to! Can't beat the location-we arrived on Tue and left on Thurs and were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go.

Stayed here one Saturday night in April with our pup. It's exactly what we were looking for - friendly, quiet, casual. If you're expecting a formal, fancy hotel experience, this probably isn't for you (and that's not what it should be compared to in these reviews). We stayed in one of the pet-friendly rooms in the main house, which are on the first floor and look out onto a quiet and grassy backyard. There's an indoor pool (has maybe seen better days), plus steam room and sauna, and we had a decent couples massage at the Aveda spa. We are planning to go back - it's a perfect place for a quiet, relaxing getaway. The grouting and caulking around the tub needed some work, and the WiFi was a little spotty, but these barely affected my enjoyment of the weekend. The staff were all pleasant and accommodating.

My boyfriend and I just spent the weekend here and were shocked at how expensive it was for what we got. Our rooms were small and stuffy feeling. There were Frette bath robes, but the towels were small and rough. The breakfast was continental-bread and yogurt and cereal. It is in a good location-but no views. Just don't seem worth the money.

The husband and I stayed here Friday and Saturday night during the St. Michaels wine festival. We added the "Romance Package" to our stay, so on arrival we had a chilled bottle of champagne in our room and a box of chocolates from the local candy store. The room was nice - my only complaint was that I had a hard time figuring out how to turn on the sleep timer on the TV (I have to have the TV on to get to sleep). The remote didn't work for the timer, so I had to get out of bed to access the menu on the front of the TV. The room was gorgeous; we had a king sized bed, gas fireplace, and whirlpool tub. On Friday night we took the bottle of champagne out to the balcony but we were chased back inside by bugs. :-( Breakfast was continential style and served across the street. I did wish that there was a reference in the room for things like breakfast time. We were verbally told what time breakfast started when we checked in, but by Sunday morning we couldn't remember. The location for attending the wine festival (or just shopping in town) was great. We could walk to everything so didn't have to worry about driving after sampling the wines. On Sunday we had our herbal baths and massages in the on-site spa, and those were delightful! We were given a basket of essential oils to choose which scent we wanted for our bath and massage (about 15 minutes prior to the bath), and I found that to be a nice touch. Overall, I would definitely recommend Five Gables to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend getaway!

A rustic and relaxing experience. Very romantic long weekend during New Year's Eve and the experience was outstanding. The fireplace was cozy and the room was warm even when the wind was howling. Walkable to all locations in St. Michaels. The Inn also provides Spa services and has a pool.... only drawback was that our room was on the other side of the road from the building that housed both.

We visited on a Thursday night during off-season as a quick getaway. Our room had exposed brick, a whirlpool tub, a gas fireplace and a semi-private balcony. The Inn was walking-distance from almost everything in town, and we had a fantastic, relaxing night. It was a great value, given all of the amenities. We'll definitely be back!

We stayed here for a couple days over Memorial Day weekend. This was our first experience at any bed and breakfast establishment. The accommodations were very nice - the room was large, the bed was comfortable and had a nice outdoor porch. The bathroom was adequate with a nice whirlpool tub. The bathroom was in need of some new caulking. Although we didn't use it, there is also an indoor pool. A delicious complimentary breakfast is included which is served every morning across the street. The muffins were awesome.

My sister and I stayed here for a girls weekend. The Inn is located in the heart of the historic area which was the best part. The reason for the fewer stars is that this inn missed the opportunity to really wow us. It would have been so nice if (1) the front door potted plants were not dead, but filled with flowers, (2)the "lobby or living room" had a nice aroma and music. When we walked in it felt like they were not expecting us. Part of the reason for staying in a B&B is the sense of home and a warm welcome....this was not the case. (3) Wine in the evening or perhaps cookies before bed would have been a nice touch. (4) As far as the people go, the lady that checked us in was dressed way too casually (even for a vacation area) and did not stand to greet us. The lady that managed the continental breakfast did not speak to us until we spoke to her. So...in summary, location is fabulous and everything else was a little bit of a let down for the price. I heard great reviews about the Hambleton Inn and will try them on my next trip there.

We decided to stay overnight in St. Michael's a bit last-minute. I had inquired about rooms before our travel in case we stuck around after our day trip, but never ended up booking anything. The Five Gables was instantly accommodating and offered us a deluxe king since the queen room we had our eye on was no longer available--for the same price! Note they have a last-minute special: if you book 48hrs or less it's 20% off! This was a room in the white house where the spa portion is. The first floor room had a king bed, cute French-country deco, flat screen tv and huge bathroom with standing shower and jacuzzi tub. Also a small balcony with 2 chairs looking out over grassy area (no water) which we enjoyed. Room was clean, very tastefully decorated and Aveda bath goodies were a plus. Coffee/tea station right outside the door with cookie jar and they had movies/games to borrow for your stay. Breakfast was across the street and was a typical continental in a cute setting (juices, cereal, breads, fruit, hard boiled eggs). We didn't use the spa but the pool, while indoor, was kind of cute since it was in a porch-like setting with skylights so well-lit. Great location in town and the staff was friendly (although we only interacted with one woman). They also had bikes (rusty beach cruisers) that we loved taking out around town. My only complaints were the following: I started to see a few sugar ants as our stay wore on (but we were on the first floor and it's summer). My biggest problem was that the top sheet had some spots on them that looked like mold stains. Everything was clean, and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I would have preferred completely white sheets! I would definitely stay here again overall- we both slept great!

This was our first time staying in St. Michaels on land. We have been by boat a few times before. We stayed during a week after a major storm so the place (and town) was not very busy. Location was great for walking or bike riding to everything in and around town. Accommodations were clean, simple and good. Room was a nice size with balcony (no water view) and a gas fireplace. Spa was great, they use Aveda products and treatments. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful including creating a semi-custom package and booking dinner reservations at townee spots. One thing to point out is this in an "Inn" not a true bed & breakfast; so the breakfast seems like after thought and is a plain continental style breakfast. At more traditional B& B's we have enjoyed conversation over homemade breakfast with other guests and owners.

We had a lovely stay. The inn is in a great location and very pet friendly! The room we stayed in this time was a little small and a bit expensive for what you get. But we spent most of our time walking around town anyway. Some updates to the breakfast would be nice. It has been exactly the same every time we've stayed and not particularly good.

Beautiful bed and breakfast. Our room had a fireplace, private bathroom, a balcony complete with two adirondack chairs. We used the bikes to check out the very quaint town of St. Michaels. The breakfast was across the street from our room and was help yourself with lots of options. The teas were especially good. It was a lot of fun, quite pricey, but worth it for a special treat.
